Healthcare is a Human Right Postcard
It is time for Vermont's elected representatives to recognize, as the people of Vermont do, that healthcare is a human right -- not a commodity, benefit or privilige but a public good that government has an inalienable responsibility to ensure.
This summer we began collecting postcards from thousands of Vermonters calling for this and we will be delivering the postcards to the Statehouse on the first day of the legislative session at 12 noon January 6th
If you fill out the form below, we will put your name on a postcard to be delivered to the legislature. The letter contains the following text:
Sen. Peter Shumlin, Senate President Pro Tempore
Rep. Shap Smith, House Speaker
Rep. Steven Maier, Chair, House Committee on Healthcare
Sen. Doug Racine, Chair, Senate Health and Welfare Committee
It is time for Vermont's elected representatives to recognize, as the people of Vermont do, that healthcare is a human right -- not a commodity, benefit or privilige but a public good that government has an inalienable responsibility to ensure.
Vermonters will no longer accept the excuses of the past. We will not wait for federal action. We do not fear a Governor's veto. We understand that the only real obstacle to the reform we seek is the corrupting influence of an industry that profits at the expense of the health and livelihood of people.
It is time for the Vermont legislature to establish a system of universal healthcare that is equitable, is accountable to the people and eliminates all barriers to healthcare.
We therefore urge you to act on and pass S.88 & H.100 which will give the people of Vermont that healthcare system.
It is not just politically possible; it is politically inescapable. We urge you to stand up and take the lead.
Respectfully,
