New Media Intership Opportunities!!!

This is your chance to be a part of a truly historic moment! Because of the grassroots organizing of the Healthcare Is a Human Right Campaign over the past two years, Vermont is poised to be the first in the nation to adopt a universal healthcare system which meets human rights principles. The next year will be tremendously exciting as we expand into the Put People First! People's Budget Campaign. We are looking for great volunteers to join us in making media to tell our stories and the stories of our communities.

The Vermont Workers’ Center is seeking volunteers to assist with media-making projects for the Healthcare Is a Human Right Campaign and the Put People First Campaign. Volunteers would work with our staff and our grassroots leaders across the state to assist with video projects for public access television and our website. Specifically, we’d love to have volunteers with the following:

-No production experience necessary
-Commitment to social justice
-Ability to follow through on project and ask for assistance when needed
-Self motivated, but with the ability to request and incorporate feedback on any work
-Flexible schedule (desirable, but not required)
-Ability to help coordinate training organizers and volunteers on media making basics
-Interested in learning new media making skills

Some of the projects we are looking for help on:
-Consistently distributing media made by the VWC to cable access, community radio stations, etc.
-Tracking mainstream media coverage of topics relevant to our Campaigns
-Assist with uploading videos onto our website
-Assist in coordinating media training (call participants, gather materials, etc.)

The ideal candidate would have 5-10 hours per week to devote to the internship, although more is better. We’re able to provide any documentation for school credit, although no financial compensation is available. But you will get to work with great organizers and passionate people on a truly historic campaign!

To apply, please send an email to megan@workerscenter.org describing your interests, why you think you're a good fit for the internship, and any relevant past experiences.

Here’s what past interns have had to say:

"This is not your average internship. It's hands on an you get real experience. As an intern, I play a role a really important movement for justice. I'm part of making history in my state." -Laura Dillon, UVM Intern Summer 2010

"Through my work on the HCHR campaign, I have realized that real change IS possible if people come together around the issues they care about. Additionally, I have met amazing and dedicated individuals, which has been a valuable component of my VWC internship." -Amanda Fox, UVM Intern Summer & Fall 2010
