Vermont Workers' Center Stands In Solidarity With Burlington Occupiers
BURLINGTON - The Vermont Workers’ Center publicly endorses Occupy Vermont’s new permanent encampment occupation of Burlington’s City Hall Park starting this Friday. The organization is co-ordinating teams of volunteer organizers and calling on its statewide network of supporters to participate in actions this weekend in Burlington and other parts of Vermont.
“The Vermont Workers’ Center stands in solidarity with the brave people who have taken to the streets in Burlington, New York City, Oakland and other cities around this country,” says Peg Franzen of Montpelier, President of the Vermont Workers’ Center and longtime leader of anti-poverty, workers’ rights and disability justice movements.
“We stand together,” Franzen continues, “because we share a vision of social and economic justice and because we understand that we have the power to make our vision become real. We stand together because we know that our futures and our children’s futures depend on us. We stand together now because the time has come.”
The encampment is being set-up on the south side of the park starting at 3pm, followed by a General Assembly at 6pm. The Vermont Workers’ Center encourages everyone to stop by with family and friends to celebrate the right to peaceably assemble, and to exercise the right to free speech. More information about the Occupation of Burlington City Hall is available at https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=309068945775661
Supporters are also urged to participate in other actions taking place this coming weekend around the state with details available at http://www.workerscenter.org/occupyvermont.
