Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Vermont is requesting a 12.7% average rate hike for next year's Vermont Health Connect plans - an increase which would raise healthcare premiums for over 70,000 people in Vermont who have BCBS plans.
This is the most that the company has requested since Vermont Health Connect started in 2014, and follows year-on-year increases that have made health insurance unaffordable for thousands of Vermont residents. Meanwhile, BCBS's CEO Don George earns over $635,000 a year in salary + bonuses, alongside eight VPs who also earn six-figure salaries.
Join the Healthcare is a Human Right Campaign at the Green Mountain Care Board to oppose the rate hikes, which are the result of a market-based health insurance system that treats our health as a commodity. The answer is clear: finishing the work of designing and implementing Vermont's universal, publicly financed healthcare system - Green Mountain Care - as laid out in Act 48, passed in 2011.
