We've had a simple ask of Vermont's legislative leadership: To hold public hearings on the governor's GMC financing proposal by January 29th. It's now a week out, and since we still haven't heard back with a confirmed hearing date, we're making our own plans.
On Thursday, January 29th, we'll be meeting at 11:30am in the statehouse cafeteria for a healthcare is a human right vigil. While the political winds in Montpelier might have shifted, the crisis in our communities hasn't gone anywhere, and our commitment to human rights and dignity remains rock solid. As Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Theoharis, director of the Kairos Center, put it in a recent sermon about our struggle in Vermont,
"We cannot wait for those who uphold the status quo to determine the right time. We cannot look to the people in power for the kind of change we all need. We cannot believe that one law or program is enough. We cannot be fooled into believing that those benefiting from our poverty and oppression will end it for us."
The time for change is now. Connect with your local Organizing Committee to coordinate rideshares, or contact email@example.com with questions.
