BREAKING NEWS: Winooski teachers reach a tentative agreement, strike averted!

Winooski teachers and board reached a tentative agreement in the middle of the night (early this morning) averting a strike.

Teachers in Winooski, members of the Vermont NEA, had entered their third year without a negotiated contract and had been the lowest paid teachers in Chittenden County. Last week the teachers voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike after having a week of informational pickets in their efforts to push the School Board to come back to the table to negotiate.

Last Wednesday, there was a huge outpouring of community support and solidarity in a packed School Board meeting which saw dozens of passionate teachers, students and community members speak out pushing the School Board to negotiate a fair deal.

This is a big victory for the teachers and the community. Way to go teachers! Thanks to all the Winooski residents, union and VWC members who supported them!
