VWC is Hiring: Burlington Livable Wage Ordinance Monitor

Organizational Overview

The Vermont Workers’ Center (VWC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation founded in 1998 as a membership organization. The VWC organizes for economic and social justice in Vermont.

Position Overview

The VWC serves as the Designated Accountability Monitor (DAM) for the City of Burlington Livable Wage Ordinance (LWO).  We seek a staff person to fulfil the duties of the DAM.  The duties require a consistent, yet flexible schedule of about 15 hours per week in the spring and summer months (16 weeks per year) and 5 hours per week the rest of the year.  The position is based out of our main office in Burlington and will involve field work.  The person in this position will report to VWC director Kate Kanelstein.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create review and update educational materials, website and posters related to the (LWO).

  • Communicate regularly with City department heads and contractors to ensure understanding of the LWO.

  • Conduct site visits to worksites where contractors are subject to the LWO.

  • Handle intake of complaints and respond to questions regarding the LWO.

  • Communicate with the City of Burlington to maintain an updated list of contractors subject to the ordinance.

  • Review and maintain forms and databases to track site visits and complaints.

  • Respond to and conduct initial investigations of LWO complaints received on the VWC Hotline, online submission form and site visits.

  • Make a plan to raise awareness about the LWO.

  • Fulfil administrative duties related to the DAM position.

 

Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills; able to use an online database and spreadsheets and to make basic website updates

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Comfortable connecting with people in person and on the phone

  • Detail oriented

  • Able to work independently and manage time effectively

  • Background in workers’ rights is ideal
